Harvested nauplii must be held under optimal condition until they are stocked. The equipment used to harvest the nauplii must be maintained daily in order to avoid contamination of the batches. In order to achieve the best larval, all areas used for larval rearing must be designed for optimal efficiency, cleanliness and productivity.
WATER TREATMENT
The un-segmented body of Nauplius undergoes six molting’s within 50 hours and turns into a protozoea. After 4–6 days, the protozoea finally turn into a mysis. The mysis remain drifting in the water column until they transform into post larvae within 10–12 days. The animals grow very fast in terms of size and are able to swim freely at a body size of 0.8–1 cm in body length.

A tight control must be maintained in the hatchery in order to ensure high quality larval production. The stock density and water quality must be maintained in a consistent manner to prevent any possible contamination. The quantity, quality and management of feed can have an important impact on larval health and survival.
LARVAL REARING
In the larval rearing tank, it will be reared for 20 days. The nauplii undergoes 3 to 4 stages and attain the saleable size of PL-10 to PL-12. The life cycle of the prawn gives a clear idea of conversion and different stages.
